Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take clients through private medical insurance?
You can pay directly yourself, and I can take clients who have private medical insurance with WPA, Aviva and AXA Health.
Can we work online/in-person?
I offer either online or in-person. Online appointments are via Zoom. In-person appointments are at a consulting room at Millers Yard, York. Please note my availability is very limited, so please email to check availability.
I’m thinking about therapy with you. What are the first steps?
Please email me to check availability and let me know your situation and preferred session times. If I can take new clients and think I am an appropriate person to work with you, I will offer a free 20-minute consultation on Zoom. This is so that we can talk through any questions or concerns you might have and so I understand more about what brings to therapy and determine whether we might be a good fit for working together. If our availability matches and if we think we might be a good fit, we will schedule your initial session.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
I do not typically work after 5.30 pm and do not see clients at the weekend.
I have accessibility needs. Will I be able to access your therapy room?
The consulting room is on the first floor, and is only accessible via stairs. I also offer online sessions.
Do you receive clinical supervision?
As required by the BACP guidelines and my insurance, I receive regular clinical supervision. I discuss cases in supervision, which is also in a contracted confidential space.
What if I don’t know if therapy will be suitable for me?
This is a personal and individual decision. Exploring this question may provide a valuable opportunity to connect with your needs and work out if this is the right time for you to come to therapy and if you feel that I am the right therapist for you at this time. If you are unsure but would still like to try it, I’ll do my best to help you make a decision that is right for you. If I think you might benefit from a different approach, or if I think a different kind of resource or support might better suit you, I will suggest this.
The first session is an opportunity for you to share what brings you to therapy, get a sense of how I work, and determine whether I am a good fit for you. Please be reassured that choosing to come for an initial session or to talk on the phone or via email does not mean that you are obliged to work with me.
How do I know you are practising safely and professionally?
I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), which means that I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. You can find more information about the ethical framework here. I have professional indemnity insurance, and I store personal information in accordance with GDPR regulations.
I also have regular clinical supervision and attend professional development and training to enhance and improve my practice.
